The bird show was the best! We got to see them fly around and over our heads. Also, we got to learn facts that you might not know!
The Year 7 STEM day at Applemore College, funded by The Ambitious For All Foundation was incredible and enjoyed by both the students and staff!
The day was a whirlwind of hands-on science and technology activities, designed to inspire young minds and create lasting memories. Students took on the challenge of Lego Robotics, meticulously programming their robots to navigate a course avoiding tricky obstacles and reach a final target.
Their scientific curiosity was ignited when they grew crystals, carefully heating salt solutions using Bunsen burners and watching in awe as delicate crystalline structures formed before their eyes. Next was an unforgettable close-up encounter with nature's wonders including scorpions, tarantulas and even hedgehogs!
The highlight of the day was the breath-taking flying display with an array of magnificent birds of prey, including owls, a kestrel, falcon and Harris Hawk which the Year 8 students joined to share in the excitement.
This unforgettable day perfectly showcased the importance of Science and Technology education, opening up new horizons and sparking a lifelong passion for discovery in the next generation.
We would like to thank all the Year 7 students for their enthusiastic participation and brilliant energy – you made our day!
Finally, our thanks also to BJPCE Limited, for the Lego Robotics; Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre and the Science staff at Applemore College for providing such an entertaining and inspiring day. Your hard work was much appreciated and made the day a fantastic success! Thank you!
